About University of Kansas
The University of Kansas, also known as simply KU, traces its history back in 1863, when Governor Thomas Carney signed into a law bill, in order to create the university in Lawrence City. The University of Kansas was officially organized in 1864, and in September 1865, the construction of the university started, with the help of the Lawrence citizens. KU opened its doors to students for the first time in 1866, on the 12th of September, the first graduating class being registered in 1873.
Today, the University of Kansas is known as being a renowned research university, with the main campus located in Lawrence, KS, having a total enrollment estimated at nearly 30 000 students, being a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities.

Facts & Short history of Lawrence
Lawrence, KS was founded in 1854, by Charles Robinson, who served as governor of Kansas in the later years, and it was named after Amos Adams Lawrence who was an antislavery partisan and prominent politician, and who also significantly supported the settlement, which is known today as Lawrence City.
The 90 000 inhabitants (2008) of Lawrence City experience warm weather during summer, when temperatures tend to be as high as 90°F (July), and cold during winter, when temperatures are as low as 20°F (January).
